Film Review

Finding Forrester was released in 2000, directed by Gus Van Sant. The film is 136 minutes long and the main characters are Rob Brown who plays Jamal. Jamal is a 16 year old African American boy who has a passion for basketball and writing. Another main character is Sean Connery who plays the role of William Forrester, an author who lives in an apartment across from the basketball court that Jamal spends the majority of his time at.

Because of scoring extremely well on an exam and doing well with his basketball career, Jamal Wallace got the opportunity to go to a prep school in Manhattan which is when he soon befriends writer, William Forrester. The friendship between the two leads William to overcome his reclusiveness and also help Jamal pursue his passion of writing. What starts as a very unlikely friendship begins to seem like the two characters were drawn together for a reason.

Finding Forrester is very similar to the film "To kill a Mockingbird", both movies have unlikely friendships. In "To Kill a Mockingbird" it is the friendship that Scout and Boo Radley form and in "Finding Forrester" it is the friendship between Jamal and William. Finding Forrester is not a critically acclaimed movie recieving only a 74% on Rotten Tomatoes, and a 7.3/10 on IMDB. In my opinion I think finding Forrester was an amazing film that had a great story line and also exceptional acting. I would recommend this movie to everyone because I think it brings something to the table for all ages.
